Les Ateliers Bogolan au Centre Kandioura Coulibaly

Du 02 au 30 janvier 2026, la formation Ateliers Bogolan s’est deroulée au Mali, au Centre Kandioura Coulibaly à Bamako, permettant aux participant.e.s d’acquérir des compétences techniques, artistiques et professionnelles essentielles dans le domaine de la teinture traditionnelle et de la création contemporaine.
Sur le plan technique, les participant.e.s ont découvert les différentes étapes de la fabrication du bogolan : la préparation du coton, l’utilisation de colorants naturels, l’application de l’argile fermentée et la maîtrise des motifs traditionnels. Cette transmission directe par des maîtres artisans et des artistes expérimentés leur a permis de comprendre et de mettre en pratique un savoir-faire ancestral étroitement lié au patrimoine culturel du Mali.
Sur le plan artistique, la formation a encouragé les participant.e.s à développer leur propre langage visuel en explorant des approches contemporaines du bogolan. Grâce à des exercices créatifs et à la réalisation d’œuvres individuelles et collectives, ils·elles ont pu expérimenter de nouvelles formes, compositions et interprétations des symboles traditionnels.
Sur le plan professionnel, les ateliers ont également permis aux participant.e.s de mieux comprendre les possibilités de valorisation du bogolan dans le domaine de l’art contemporain et de l’artisanat d’art. Ils ont ainsi renforcé leur capacité à développer des projets artistiques, à collaborer avec d’autres créateur.rice.s et à ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives pour la diffusion de leurs œuvres.
Enfin, cette formation a favorisé les échanges, la collaboration et la création d’un réseau parmi les jeunes artistes, tout en renforçant le transfert intergénérationnel de connaissances entre formateurs et participant.e.s.
Les ateliers de bogolan ont ainsi contribué à former une nouvelle génération d’artistes capables de préserver et de faire revivre cet important patrimoine culturel du Mali.
From 2 to 30 January 2026, the Ateliers Bogolan training course took place in Mali, at the Kandioura Coulibaly Centre in Bamako, enabling participants to acquire essential technical, artistic and professional skills in the field of traditional dyeing and contemporary design.
On a technical level, participants learnt about the various stages of bogolan production: the preparation of cotton, the use of natural dyes, the application of fermented clay and the mastery of traditional patterns. This direct transmission of knowledge from master craftsmen and experienced artists enabled them to understand and put into practice ancestral know-how closely linked to Mali’s cultural heritage.
From an artistic perspective, the training encouraged participants to develop their own visual language by exploring contemporary approaches to bogolan. Through creative exercises and the creation of individual and collective works, they were able to experiment with new forms, compositions and interpretations of traditional symbols.
Professionally, the workshops also enabled participants to better understand the potential for promoting bogolan within the fields of contemporary art and arts and crafts. They thus strengthened their ability to develop artistic projects, collaborate with other creators and open up new avenues for showcasing their work.
Finally, this training fostered exchanges, collaboration and the creation of a network among young artists, whilst strengthening the intergenerational transfer of knowledge between trainers and participants.
The bogolan workshops have thus helped to train a new generation of artists capable of preserving and reviving this important cultural heritage of Mali.
